‘Newborn Sessions’ are usually scheduled in baby’s first two weeks of life while your baby is still very sleepy and pliable and has the natural fetal position still intact from being in the womb. The older your baby gets, the less receptive they will be to being handled and positioned. Your baby will also be much more alert, and it will be more difficult to get those really great sleepy shots everyone loves so much.
Family Newborn Session
We also photograph ‘Newborn Family Sessions’, which do not rigidly hold to the “two-week-old” rule. Newborn Family Sessions are family oriented and photographed at your home, or on location and they include all members of the immediate family. Sessions have a candid/photojournalistic feel to them, with the focus on the relationship between mom, dad, and baby, interacting naturally in your own environment. Though we love posed imagery, our main focus is on capturing love and the family bond and less on the perfect sleeping baby. Although we love those types of images, I put great emphasis on the family relationship and the historical value of these documented moments. These images are priceless and I love photographing them!
Family newborn sessions are scheduled within the first week to three months of life. There is no pressure to schedule your newborn session in the first week of life, while you are trying to find your ‘new normal’ with your new baby. At times it may be best to schedule your session when you are feeling your best and some of your energy has returned.
Scheduling your session
Newborn sessions or Family Newborn Sessions should be scheduled in far in advance of your due date if possible. I make every effort to make last minute appointments, but that is not always possible. If your session is scheduled in advance, I will be aware and ready for your baby’s arrival. We all know babies rarely make an appearance when they are due, so the date is always tentatively set. Upon booking your appointment the current price is locked in. Once your baby is born, you can contact me to finalize the date for your session.
Where will my session be held?
Your session can be held in my studio, or in your home. Email or give me a call and we can discuss the details of the session that best fits your needs.
